Computer Security Assignment

For this assignment, you are going to run some tests on your computer to determine how vulnerable it is to various forms of attack. For each task, you will either be running an online test and writing down (or taking a screenshot of) your results, or you will simply write down the answer to the question. Turn in all answers and results.

Answer the following questions about your personal computer in a Word document. If you are not sure whether these programs are installed on your computer, look at the “Add/Remove Programs” tool in your control panel to find a list of all available programs. You may also have to visit the web sites of these programs for additional information.

  1. Does your computer have a firewall program installed? If so, which one?
  2. Does your computer have anti-virus software installed? If so, which one?
  3. Does your computer have any other anti-malware software installed? If so, which one?
  4. Are all installed security programs activated? Are they all set up to do automatic updates of information? Check your settings for each program to determine this.

  2. If no problems were detected, what have you been doing to keep them from occurring?
  3. What steps do you think you need to take to improve your computer’s security?
